"Finally, those good for nothing citizens of Karunth will feel my power" thought Aavorak as he handed over the princely sum to Chandor in the Alaghon Real Estate Agency. "No more will poor Aavorak sleep in the cold damp streets, or at a corner chair in the Dragonfly Inn"
"Thankyou sir" replied Chandor, as he quickly pocketed the gold, "If you would now just finalise this legal treatise, nothing to worry about, just the formalities" he went on, proffering the evil fighter a lengthy contract.
Aavorak quickly signed the document, and pocketed the lease on the property into his pocket. "Finally vengeance will be mine" he cried "Finally, a fortress of impentrable defense, a shrine to my gods ! Soon Alaghon will be at my knees ! Foolish mortal - you have signed your city's death warrant for mere gold !"
"Thats fine sir." replied Chandor, "If you would like, we have some nice items for new tenants which you might be interested in" he went on, indicating a doorway behind him.
"Decorations ? Ha - I laugh at your pitiful ideas. I will create a shrine to Vulcan iand will open a portal which will allow the dark one to return to this mortal plane, and death and revenge will reign finally once more !" spewed Aavorak, spittle pouring from his bone helm as he revelled in his glory.
"That might be a little difficuly" countered the unusually calm shopkeeper. "You do have certain housing restrictions, which, if you examine a copy of your lease, restricts you to certain requirements as a tenant. Obviously, you will want to examine the document at your leisure" he added.
Aavorak paused, and pulled out the copy of the lease he had just signed. It was starting to become apparent that as a new tenant, there was much he hadn't anticipated. He studied the tiny words below his signature. "What ? It says here no evil minions may be summoned" he cried
"Well, thats not technically true" replied chandor, pointing to a very small typed paragraph. "The summoning of evil minions and demons may be undertaken with the religious freedom act of the year of the partridge - but only on certain religious holidays and strictly without the use of sacrifices - human or otherwise. The carpets are new after all".
"hmm" Aavorak sat at the desk, perusing the manuscript. "What about magical portals ? Is it possible for me to open portals - I don't see a specific reference to that" he replied after several minutes of looking at the document.
"you probably need to read the lease in full sir" replied Chandor - "for if you spend the time, you'll see in paragraph 16, section 8b, subsection 2 that portals are allowed, providing a permit has been applied for from the ministry of magic in advance, and such a permit has been provided to this office at least seven days prior to the summoning"
"Aha" gleamed Aavorak "excellent, then I will certainly look into that. Tell me mortal, where can I find a container for my belongings ?"
"Yes sir, we do have containers for sale - safes, chests - all manor of items which will secure your items. If you would follow me" replied Chandor. The real-estate agent led the adventurer into the back room of his shop, where all types of items were on display.
"Excellent - I think I will take this Mark IV ultra-safe - oh, and that throne looks suitable." Aavorak went through the display cases, noting down all the items he required. "that mirror too - what kind of mirror is that ?"
Chandor gleamed at Aavorak. "The latest flat-screen technology sir - for a mere few gold pieces, you are able to pick up the latest planar psionic transmissions. Its the latest rage - able to pick up almost anything on seven planes of existence, 8 if you count pay-per-view !"
"Then I must have it" demanded Aavorak "here is your gold. Ummm - how do I ship this to my new shrine?"
"With the latest teleporting technology which the guild of magic has provided us, we can beam your new belongings into your house with the minimal of effort. I'll provide you with these scrolls and you can summon the items with the scrolls. All the latest technology" beamed the agent.
Aavorak left the real estate agency offices, and walked to his new home, visions of the future benevolence of Vulcan being expressed on him. In the house, he used the scrolls and the items he had purchased started to teleport into the home. Soon he had placed all that he needed into the rooms, including several potted plants he had taken a fancy to at the agents.
"Now the time is right" grinned Aavorak to himself, "The great one will be ecstatic indeed with my wise purchases. Time to talk to the ministry to get that foolish permit". Aavorak started towards the door, but the mirror caught his eye. "Hmm maybe the ministry could wait" he thought to himself, "surely theres enough time to see how well this device works...."
"
P.S. Player housing - Alaghon - get your homes now while they last!!!!
